I really like the music that anime presents to us. It can be catchy, emotional, soothing, intense and overall, fun to listen to. So when it comes to openings and endings (and even OSTs and insert songs), I always look forward to them, even if I’m half way or even 100 episodes into an anime if it’s THAT good of a song.

OPs and EDs also tend to make me want to start watching a show. Whenever I stumble upon a song from a well-known show in my recommended section or if someone shows me a song from an anime they’re watching, most likely I’ll really like it and have the urge to watch that particular show.

And that’s what this list is about. Here’s a selection of openings and endings from anime that I have never seen or finished, and if I weren’t so damn lazy/busy/picky, I could’ve watched these already. 🙂

Let’s begin!

“Hare Hare Yukai” by Hirano Aya, Chihara Minori and Goto Yuki (Suzumiya Haruhi ED)

I think most people know this iconic song and dance, as it’s even been featured as an emote in the popular game, Overwatch. I’ve seen a good amount of the Suzumiya Haruhi series but never finished it for some reason… maybe because I was scarred for life when I watched the entirety of Endless Eight. But I do realize that that was my own decision 😛

It’s a very fun and definitely catchy song, Hirano Aya’s voice is always really nice to listen to and watching this very memorable dance that’s been covered by many people around the world, you can see that both this ending and the series alone has a big impact in the anime community.

Also if you want to watch a rendition of this song and dance that feature the seiyuu (even Kyon and Koizumi’s voice actors), it’s a good video to look and smile at:

“Nibun no Ichi” by BACK-ON (Gundam Build Fighters OP)

I’m not that into the Gundam series, I am watching Gundam Build Divers this current season but even then it’s not my cup of tea, to be honest. However the opening for Gundam Build Fighters was just such a catchy EDM/Rock/Rap tune to listen to, especially the opening lines. How can you not just sing along with the dude at the beginning!

“Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari” by supercell (Bakemonogatari ED)

Let’s just be honest here, a lot of the songs in the Monogatari series are really nice whether it be Hanazawa Kana’s “Renai Circulation” or even the mysterious yet upbeat BGM song “Suteki Meppou”. But I think the wonderful ending for Bakemonogatari has to take the cake for me. Nagi Yanagi’s voice is just smooth and the music accompanying her like the piano solos and such make a great song to listen to.

“Iwanai Kedo ne” by Oohara Yuiko (Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san OP)

Even though I enjoy comedy anime, Takahashi Rie and her teasing in Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san just didn’t do it for me personally. But I did enjoy something (other than some of the side characters in the show) which was the pleasant opening! It’s such a relaxing song to listen to, both with Yuiko’s voice and the enjoyable music. The acoustic guitar is excellent in this one.

“adrenaline!!!” by TrySail (Eromanga-sensei ED)

You know, I’d rather not watch another episode of this show… I-I think one is enough.

However this show did have some things I love, that weren’t related to the story or overall show at all! The opening and ending themes, performed by ClariS and TrySail respectively are both great songs to listen to, but I think the ending was the most enjoyable out of the two (no disrespect to ClariS though lol). TrySail is actually a group I’m listening to more often, their new album TAILWIND is superb, and they did a great job with this energetic and fun tune for this anime!

“Hikaru Nara” by Goose house (Your Lie in April OP)

I think we all know what this show is, but I think I’m one of the few anime fans in the universe that has not seen this yet. I’d assume it’s good, given the high praise it’s got.

If you don’t know who Goose house is, I would suggest giving them a listen. They’re a group of musicians who just have fun playing any kind of music, whether it be their own creations or covers of famous Japanese or English songs. And the way they express their love of music, it being simply singing and playing their instruments in front of a camera, it’s what makes them unique and enjoyable to listen to. It must’ve been really cool for them to have their song be in an anime like YLIA. You can listen to the live version by them in this video:

“Colorful” by Sawai Miku (Saekano ED)

Actually found this song while I was searching for anime songs to play on the guitar and oh boy, you already know this song would be on repeat after this discovery… and ultimately what sparked this post idea!

I’ve only gotten a tiny glimpse of Saekano, it looks like an interesting show to watch so I definitely will consider watching it in my spare time. But yeah, after listening to this splendid song, it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with Sawai Miku’s voice.

Also if you’re interested in the guitar tab I was talking about for this song:

“Kanashii Ureshii” by Frederic (Koi to Uso OP)

I was actually pretty hyped up for Koi to Uso back in last year but apparently it turned out to not be that good of a show (even the voice of Hanazawa Kana didn’t save it?!). But what I got out of just watching an episode or two was the extremely catchy opening by Frederic. Whether it be the sick bass line in this show or how you develop the habit of singing “Kanashii kanashii ureshii ureshii” in random moments in your life, this is a really nice song to listen to, even if you didn’t like this show.

“secret base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ (10 years after ver.)” by Kayano Ai, Tomatsu Haruka and Hayami Saori (AnoHana ED)

I don’t know if it’s just me but this song just makes me emotional even though I have never seen a second of this show. All I really have to say is that the combination of these three beautiful voices… it’s up there with “Dango Daikazoku” tbh

“Sugar Step to Bitter Song” by UNISON SQUARE GARDEN (Kekkai Sensen ED)

A prime example of an opening/ending that makes me want to watch that show. The vocalist’s unique voice, the fun vibe it gives off and especially the catchiness of it overall makes it a REALLY good ending. UNISON SQUARE GARDEN is always a great band to listen to whether it be their songs featured in various anime like this one or their separate music, I’m glad that they’re getting more attention!

The MV/visuals for this song in Kekkai Sensen, more specifically the dance part, is very much popular around the community and has been recreated/parodied many times. Here’s a good example of that, a Pokemon-themed recreation:

“Re:Re:” by Asian Kung-Fu Generation (Erased OP)

Alongside UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, Asian Kung-Fu Generation is a band I should really look into more as just from listening to this opening, I really do dig their style of music. Also, Boku dake ga Inai Machi is a show that I’ve been wanting to watch for a while now but never really got to. Definitely looks interesting and I’ve heard overall high praise for it, hopefully it doesn’t stay in my PTW list for much longer.

“Zzz” by Sasaki Sayaka (Nichijou ED)

It’s well past midnight at the time I’m writing this so I think this song is a great way to end this list off.

I’ve only really seen various clips of Nichijou but even from that, I think it’s a extremely hilarious show. Goofy and ridiculous comedy mixed in with slice-of-life… now I’m thinking of actually watching the whole season now 😛

The ending for this show is just plain great. It gives off a really relaxing vibe to it but also being upbeat and fun, and it will always be one of my all-time favorite anime endings.

Aaaand that’s all I wanted to talk about today! Hope you found this list to be, at least, fairly interesting and maybe it helped you discover some nice anime songs to listen to. I’d love to hear some of your favorite anime openings and/or endings, feel free to leave them in the comments!

Thanks for reading!! 😀
