Also just a heads up: this episode does contain massive spoilers for the visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club, so just be wary (you can skip to the 27:37 mark to avoid them)

Editor’s Notes
- Kaoru headphones commission (in featured image) by rubell
- @ 1:06:30 – Used the term “in lieu” incorrectly; I obviously don’t know what it means
- @ 1:21:32 – Didn’t mean to call Leap an “acquaintance”; apparently I also don’t know what that word means
- I apologize for the excessive uses of ‘umm’, ‘like’, ‘you know’, etc.
Thanks for listening!! 😀

Nah, it’s cool, I take no offense to being called an acquaintance (xD) Rather, I’m not entirely sure there’s a negative connotation to that, lol
Oooh, that’s such an n-buna guitar signature! lol, good song!
I mean, I still have DDLC setup on my laptop unplayed so I’m even worse off than you in that regard (xD) The game’s been spoiled to no end whether it’s Twitter, YouTube, or just my friends talking about it, but I’ll try to pick it up again at some point in the future. I’ve played a good handful of VNs in my day (read: when I had time for it) and yeah, I actually started with F/SN and that’s pretty much as standard of an eroge/Japanese VN as there is. As a newcomer to the medium though, I’d actually recommend that you check out Steins;Gate Elite on the Switch (as I do recall you said you played Smash and I’m assuming you have a Switch xD). It’s a “remaster” of sorts of Steins;Gate for the PC, but using animation from the anime. VERY well-crafted story too. and lol, I do like the fact that both the VNs you’ve played are by Westerners, Haha!
It was my first time meeting up with an Internet mutual too I believe. Nah, you guys were alright 😀 Would’ve loved to chat more really (and ooh all the best to you guys going off to college!)
I did want to clue you in on wotagei (lit. “otaku performance”/ the different light stick motions, feel free to look the term up, lol) when you asked me for prep tips, but I figured that that was something best experienced first hand :p It’s very much a weird spectacle epecially the first time you see it, but as you said, that was the purest form of appreciation that you’ll see from Western fans/fans outside of Japan. But yeah, *it is* tiring though, and I forgot to mention that when we talked, but I dunno I guess I’ve built up stamina throughout the times I’ve gone to one, jk.
Whenever talk comes up about seiyuus marrying their fellow seiyuus, I always point to the marriage Sakamoto Maaya and Kenichi Suzumura who both voiced as main characters and mutual love interests in the highly acclaimed “Garden of Sinners” movie series. Truly a fairytale standard in their line of work I would assume. It is interesting though that backlash from Ayacchi’s “sudden” marriage announcement is comparably more subdued from when there was a mention a year ago about her being in a relationship (I remember she even got death threats over it). I surmise people take to the news more handily when they know she’s involved with another seiyuu (as opposed maybe to just some guy).
Oh neat, I’ve always wanted to try out some BiSH, but because there’s so many iterations with different members I don’t know where to start (xD)
Nice catch (and ayy thanks for the shout out!). Yeah, toe (to-[h]e, lit. “to the east”) and Kinoko Teikoku do share that atmospheric vibe that they have going for their music, but rather than being Shoegaze (which is characterized more by grating distortion) toe is arguably one of the best exemplars of Math Rock in Japan. The difference lies in instrumentation but generally speaking their similarities lie in them being pretty niche and just trippy genres, lol

Luckily I didn’t get spoiled too much about DDLC other than seeing one of the character’s unfortunate demise somewhere, but I just decided to go try it out anyway. Still had a great experience, like you heard. And ahh alright, I’ve been wanting to get into the Steins;Gate franchise for a while now so I think this VN on the Switch will be a good choice for me. Thanks!
Ah shoot, I didn’t hear/read about Sakamoto Maaya’s marriage but that’s pretty amazing for those two to end up together like that. But yeah, even on Kaji Yuki’s side, he’s gotten some bizarre remarks regarding his marriage such as fans making up theories that HanaKana, Ayaneru, and Mayayan were all his ex-girlfriends before marrying Ayachi… it’s crazy lol. Speaking of seiyuu relationships/dating, I’ve been meaning to ask if you wanted to work on that one Idol Chit-Chat we started but never actually did; my interest in it sort of sparked after seeing this one particular tweet w/ Miyutan, even though it doesn’t explicitly deal with a relationship lol (https://twitter.com/ReiwaAikatsu/status/1130075195786571776). But yeah, I’ll msg you about it eventually
Ahh, I see. Yeah I think they both do that atmospheric vibe really well (judging just from the few songs of theirs I’ve heard) but it’s good to know the differences between the two.
